India, the new country of the sport business
A league of
extraordinary gentlemen of the little yellow ball, a two-month private football
championship animated by old glories of the round ball, a cricket league that
weighs billions of dollars ... Taking inspiration from the North American
model, India is developing a very lucrative sports market.
The second
most populous country in the world and undisputed leader in several sectors
such as IT, India is a true figurehead among emerging countries. If there is
one example to follow for many, the country is lagging behind at certain
levels. Indeed, while it has so far only one individual gold medalist in its
history at the Olympic Games, India can hardly be considered a great country in
the world sports landscape.
